Stretch Fabric; for some it is self explanatory, for others a bit of mystery. I get asked all the time about what stretch fabric can be used for, outside of swimsuits of course. Many well seasoned seamstresses, and designers steer clear of this amazing and wondrous fabric. Many do not realize it's potential, playfulness or capacity to express itself in so many ways.
I have been sewing since I was four, and first discovered stretch fabric at thirteen. Tucked away at the bottom of a flat fold pile at my local fabric store was a small amount of stretch lace. I had never encountered such a wonderful fabric, and at first was at a loss as to what to do with it, then cautiously I made my first pair of leggings.
That was twenty-five years ago, and since then I have pushed, pulled and stretched my design abilities into all different directions. I will be sharing with you many of the things I have learned in the last twenty-five years. Including the tips, tricks, and secrets of all things stretch.
My name is Talla, and I am the owner and founder of Designer Alley Fabrics, my business is a home based business, I live everyday right in the middle of my passion, my purpose, my inspiration.
While I am passionate about stretch fabric, I am also passionate about my clients as well. It has amazed, and delighted me to see someone start with a single project and then watch it grow to more and then eventually into a lively hood that supports their families. Designer Alley Fabrics is about fabrics, and fashion but it is also about people. About individuals finding their path, and earning a living through their creativity. I will be sharing some of those stories with you as well, to inspire you and to guide you.
So tell me about yourself, do you have a stretch fabric question? Do you have a story about how your life has changed through fabric and design? You can either comment below, or write to me at email@example.com, I look forward to hearing about your triumphs, and your tangles and will be answering any questions in my weekly blog!
Each week I will post something new, next week I am going to jump right in and explain a little about the confusing terms that describe stretch fabric and clear up some of the vocabulary. A fun history lesson might work its way in there too and after that well we will just see were the wind takes us!
